Granulators are used for processing and recycling plastics. Plastic granulators use rotary knives to cut plastic waste into smaller sizes and reduce its volume for easier handling or recycling. Densifiers or agglomerators also shred plastic but use a rotor that creates heat from the shredding friction. This heat melts the plastic which allows it to form larger, denser pieces relative to fine dust which is harder to handle. These pieces of plastic can then be recycled in manufacturing.
